We met the Flesh Weaver, and she did a number on the Party before phasing out of existence. Ryltar's summoned Hound of Ill Omen has its only goal to attack her, but she's not here anymore.
Vurguron is at 1 HP.
The Flesh Weaver was Slowed by Ryltar back on Round 6, and is still slowed.
And the Psychic Fang Elite Spider is attacking us.
Back into initiative
- Round 9:
- (continued from last week)
- Ryltar's Hound of Ill Omen, seeing its quarry vanish into a different plane, sniffs the air, looking around, trying to find something which is no longer on the plane.
- Round 10:
- Jerry moves around the PFES to where she can flank it, and attacks with her halberd, missing once and critting it once for a total of
25damage. - The PFES attacks Jerry with two tentacles for
27damage, bringing her to3/92health. Then it bites Salris, stunning him for15piercing and15psychic. - Vurguron chugs a Potion of Greater Healing for
14, then pops Second Wind for13health. - Ryltar casts Ray of Frost on the PFES, but missed.
- Salris is stunned.
- Salris' Undead Spirit attacks the PFES for
14damage, frightening the PFES. - Thrai attacks twice with her maul, critting the first attack for
20and hitting normally on the second for7bludgeoning. - The Hound is still

- Round 11:
- Jerry slashes the PFES twice, dealing
34damage, and then backs out of range. - The PFES drops one tentacle against Thrai and one against Vurguron, and a bite against Salris. It's frightened, so it misses Thrai, hits Vurguron's Shield, and misses Salris.
- Vurguron moves one step to the right, out of the antimagic field, and attacks with flanking advantage for
14slashing and4radiant, and14slashing and4more radiant, splitting its eye in twain.
- Jerry slashes the PFES twice, dealing
The PFES dies, withering, and its stones pulse with a small psychic explosion before they turn into dust.
We discuss what to do if the hound runs off, and Jerry moves her hunter's Mark onto it to better track him if it runs off. It's still sniffing around.
We look for a place to hide and heal, and go into the Flesh Weaver's workshop. The spider she was working on has disappeared, but there's a big cocoon, and Ryltar slits it open.
New Character, and a short rest.
It's Percival Byron, a half-elf son of a nobleman, who walks with a swagger (and he's poisoned). He saw us in the West Haven. We introduce ourselves.
At request, Thrai smashes the spider husks in the room.
Ryltar tells Percival that if the dog runs, we're chasing after it. Right now we're in need of healing, and lo and behold Percival can do some healing. Jerry and Vurguron are at single-HP.
We decide to take a short rest. The hour passes. The dog searches the room, looking down the stairs, and then just before it disappears, it locks on to the location of the Flesh Weaver, and runs towards the down stairs.
We heal up, aided by Percival's Song of Rest for an additional 1d8 of health. Some spiders peep at us around a corner, but retreat. Thrai heals Percival of his poisoning.
Thrai's banished spider half comes back: the spider half of the spider comes back, squeaking and then dies.
We decide to head down the stairs. Jerry, Salris, Ryltar, Vurguron, Percival, and Thrai.
Down the stairs, to the Big Cocoon
We come to a sprawling landscape of loose soil and rock, and the right-hand tunnel leads to a passage full of old webbing. The right-hand tunnel leads to another fork in the path. We head towards the webbing.
A massive cocoon, suspended in the middle of the room, with two Phase Spiders climbing over it, guarding it.
- Round 1
- The cocoon shudders. A pulse of webbing spatters out of the cocoon, covering the walls. Jerry, Percival and Vurguron fall to zero movement, and can only see 15 feet. They see the tunnel get filled with webs.
- The Phase Spider disappears, blinking out.
- The second Phase Spider approaches Jerry, and bites for
3piercing and9piercing, but passes the constitution save. It then vanishes. - Ryltar shoots a Ray of Frost at the cocoon, hitting a wall of webs, for
9cold damage, snapping the wall of webs. The webs are also slowed by10feet, as they fall from the wall. The cocoon shivers. - Jerry, blinded, prepares an attack if the Phase Spiders return.
- Salris advances into the cocoon room. There's a path off to the left. Down it are three small swarms of spiders. He attacks the cocoon for
27damage, cutting into it. It's like gelatin, the green sludge within the webbing. Then he cries. - Thrai moves to cover the left fork of the path.
- Behind Salris, something within the cocoon turns. The ooze coagulates into a tentacle. "Yummy spider yolk!" says Will.
- Percival uses Mage Hand to give spiders the middle finger. The webs around him dissipate into thin wisps of gossamer strands, drifting through the air. No one is bound by them now.
- A Phase Spider reappears in front of Jerry, and her reaction triggers with two attacks against this monstrosity for
25damage. It attacks her for9piercing and9poison. - A third Phase Spider reappears, and attacks Thrai. She had prepared an attack, and gets it quite dead.
- Round 2.
- Vurguron attacks the Phase Spider in front of Thrai, splatting it. Then he advances down the right fork of that left path at the bottom of the stairs. He sees that that path connects to the path by Salris.
- One swarm moves towards Vurguron, and two more surround Salris.
- Ryltar moves up next to Jerry, and casts Chilling Hands on Jerry's Phase Spider and one of Salris' swarms. They take
7cold. The Phase Spider pops. - Jerry advances to attack the cocoon, dealing quite a bit with a crit of damage, and
12slashing against the swarm with a Whirlwind attack. - Salris attacks the swarm surrounding him, dealing
42magical slashing. It's down to3spiders left. - Thrai helps Vurguron against his swarm, with Sacred Flame.
- The cocoon oozes from its multiple slashes. Out comes a spindly hand, which blindly lashes out against Salris. Ryltar recognizes the hand as the Flesh Weaver. Her Poison Touch is halved to
15by his resistance to poison damage. He screams. - Percival throws his Storm Boomerang at the cocoon, for
6bludgeoning and some other stuff. And then he throws a 5-second bagpipe solo to give Jerry a point of bardic inspiration. - The wisps of webs thrum as the Flesh Weaver Calls the Kindred, summoning two Phase Spiders from the left fork of the left path, near Vurguron and Thrai.
- One disappears.
- The second Phase Spider attacks Vurguron, misses, and phases out.
- Round 3.
- Vurguron moves 15 feet back to the Party, and prepares a firebolt for when he sees the Phase Spider reappear.
- The swarms attack Salris, Jerry and Vurguron. Salris takes no damage; Jerry takes
5piercing. - Ryltar Ray of Frosts the cocoon for
19cold damage. - Jerry swaps her glaive's blade for a hammer head, and squashes the swarm. Her second attack cracks open the cocoon, letting forth a slightly-healed Flesh Weaver onto the field.
- As a legendary action, the Flesh Weaver attacks Jerry, but stumbles and does not hit.
- Salris Hexblade's Curses the Flesh Weaver, and then pops Shadow of Moil on himself for
2d8necrotic on any attacker within 10 feet for any attack it makes. - Thrai lights up Vurguron's swarm with Sacred Flame, roasting it to a crisp.
- The Flesh Weaver uses another legendary action, casting Eldritch Blast, two at Salris and one at Jerry, missing Salris and Jerry.
- The Flesh Weaver then prepares to cast Enervation, but Ryltar Counterspells at fourth level. Then she Inspires Infection in the swarm nearest her,
- Percival spies her. She succeeds against his Polymorph.
- She does Unworldy Movement to move out of the corner room, away from the cocoon.
- The thin webs webs scatter around wit Proliferate Pain appears again.
- The Phase spiders reappear, flaking Vurguron and Thrai. Vurguron's prepared Firebolt goes off, missing his Phase Spider, but throwing off its attack. Both Phase Spiders fail their attack.
- Round 4: The Flesh Weaver is paralyzed. And a Brute Spider appears.
- Vurguron stabs his Phase Spider for
14slashing4radiant - A three-spider tiny swarm engulfs Salris, attacking him. They are emboldened with green pimples, but still don't land any attacks.
- Ryltar advances to where he can see the Flesh Weaver and casts Slow at fourth level, affecting her and the tiny swarm. Then Ryltar summons the Hound of Ill Omen once more, behind the Flesh Weaver.
- Jerry pops Hunter's Mark on the Flesh Weaver, then attacks twice with her long maul for a decent amount of bludgeoning.
- Salris kills the small swarm, then attacks the Flesh Weaver. She crits for
35damage. - Thrai smashes the Phase Spider, then summons her Spiritual Weapon as a bonus action behind the Flesh Weaver.
- The Flesh Weaver casts Dispel Magic, dispelling Ryltar's Slow and Jerry's Hunter's Mark.
- Percival casts Hold Monster on her, and succeeds. She's paralyzed. He opens one of the hundred pockets on his vest, and pulls out two salted almonds, which he eats.
- The lair once more Calls the Kindred, summoning a Brute Spider. Where its pseudopod ends on its body, there's another diamond-shaped rock on its tip.
- The Hound bites, dealing
10piercing.
- Vurguron stabs his Phase Spider for
- Round 5:
- Vurguron walks up to the paralyzed Flesh Weaver, casts Shadow Blade for two critical attacks,
4d8+7 = 24psychic,4d8+7 = 28psychic, Action Surge for another4d8+7=20psychic,4d8+7 = 30psychic. Total102damage. The strikes aren't as effective as we expected, though. - The Brute Spider stings Percival for a little damage, failing the Constitution save. He's cursed with a corrupting energy; his muscles and bones extend and contract uncontrollably, halving his speed, disadvantage on strength/dex-based anything. Then it makes a tentacle leg attack against Thrai and Percival, missing Percival and hitting Thrai for a little damage.
- Ryltar moves to a better line of sight on the Flesh Weaver, and Ray of Frosts her twice for
11cold and reducing her speed to negative 10 speed. - Jerry advances to the paralyzed Flesh Weaver and attacks twice, doing
32 + 25damage from two critical bludgeoning attacks. - Salris deals
68slashing damage, climbing on top of her, decapitating her with the cruelpesh. He heals for quite a bit. A pulse rips forth from her body as she dies. An uncontrollable twitch spreads across her body, rejecting what it has become: a contradiction of ideas. Vurguron, Ryltar and Jerry fail the Charisma checks. Everyone has mental images the idea of entropy, of unlimited space, of no meaning — and then there is a pull. It draws you through a portal, condensing and shoving your self into a tiny structure, the first idea of form that you've ever had, drawn into the world, drawn to the ground: an impact! — The Party takes42psychic, halved on success. The head and torso fall apart. - Thrai is angry, and attacks the Brute.
- Percival disengages from the Brute with Dimension Door, moving 60 feet away.
- The room fills with lingering threads of wispy web from Proliferate Pain.
- Vurguron walks up to the paralyzed Flesh Weaver, casts Shadow Blade for two critical attacks,
- Round 6
- Vurguron runs up to the Brute Spider and attacks, misses his first swing, misses his second, and is saddened.
- The Brute makes a stinger attack against Vurguron, but is caught on his last Shield. Then it attacks Salris for
16bludgeon, taking10necrotic damage from his Shadow of Moil. Then it attacks Thrai for9bludgeoning. Both are restrained. - Ryltar roots around in the Flesh Weaver's corpse. Where the bottom torso ripped itself apart, there's an 8-pointed obsidian pumice star. Ryltar grabs it. He feels that this stone is power, that what she did can be replicated. There's more that can be done with this stone.
- Jerry frees Vurguron from the tentacle.
- Salris makes some small attacks.
- Thrai makes three melee attacks with her maul, maul, and spiritual weapon.
- Percival heals himself for
20. - The webs appear again, catching Vurguron, Percival, and Salris.
- Round 7.
- Vurguron casts Protection from Good and Evil on himself, which saves him from a little damage, but he still takes a curse from its next attack.
- Ryltar looks around a corner to see some upside-down, dead Phase Spiders. He continues exploring.
- Jerry attacks the Brute for
14smashing. - Salris is restrained and near-blinded by the webs, and misses his first attack. Thrai's Guided Strike helps him to hit.
- Percival holds an action.
- The lair switches over to Proliferate Pain.
- Round 8
- Vurguron hits the Brute for
15slashing4radiant plus12slashing4radiant, and then backs off a bit. - The Brute makes a stinger attack against Jerry, taking
19piercing (down to 7 HP) and taking on the curse. Then it tentacles Salris and Thrai, taking14necrotic and dealing12bludgeoning to Salris and18to Thrai, restraining them. - Ryltar comes around to where he can Ray of Frost the Brute in the butt, and does so, for
5cold damage. - Jerry drinks a potion of superior healing for
8d8++8 = 26health, then attacks for8smashing. - Salris struggles against the tentacles.
- Percival throws his boomerang, which bounces off the spider and doesn't come back.
- The webs come in again, and bind everyone but Ryltar and Thrai.
- Vurguron hits the Brute for
- Round 8.
- Vurguron can see the Brute, and so he firebolts for some.
- The Brute downs Thrai, then attacks Salris and Jerry, taking
14necrotic and dealing17to Salris and bludgeoning Jerry for10. This is the third time that Jerry has shrugged off a critical attack thanks to her Hertkeeper Breastplate. - Ryltar casts Ray of Frost for
18damage. - Jerry overcomes her curse to deal
25slashing, through the webs. - Salris finally kills the Brute with Eldritch Blast, popping it.
The webs fade away.
Jerry does a Healer's Kit to stabilize Thrai. Salris uses the last of Jerry's potions of greater healing.
Thrai asks people to take a moment to breath, but it'll take 10 minutes to heal everyone. She casts Prayer of Healing for 10 HP.
Ryltar carves at the stinger with a dagger, retrieving the diamond-shaped stinger. This one feels drawn to the star, zipping towards it with a clang as he drops it into his bag.
We decide to take a long rest inside Percival's Tiny Hut. Salris first casts Remove Curse on Percival. And in the morning, if spiders are pounding on the walls of the hut, we'll take Ryltar's teleport to Ren's teleportation circle.
We eat and drink inside the Tiny Hut, and take our watches.
Nothing happens overnight.
Ryltar talks with Percival about his vest of a million pockets. Percival found it in a vest in his grandfather's house. Every so often he'll open a pocket and find out what's inside. An Advest Calendar, if you will.
Morning underground
The area is clear and silent.
Jerry and Vurguron make Constitution saves against the curse. Jerry shrugs it off; Vurguron uses Indomitable to shrug the curse off.
We wander through the caves, finding two more chambers. One is a bedchamber, full of equipment, like packs and bedrolls. Among all the normal detritus in the packs, we find a pair of goggles. They look like an owl's motif, so Jerry puts them in her bag. One corner of the tunnel has more tunnels leading up. Another room is a small chamber full of deceased Phase Spiders.
We find another tunnel, leading down to a large round room, with six entrances.
The Stone Room
In the middle is an obsidian pumice stone, carved and worked, ten feet tall, 25 feet across. A pile of maybe a dozen humanoid bodies surround the stone, but they're not the carvers. They were warriors. They all have shards of obsidian pumice lodged in each of their skulls.
Thrai recognizes one of the bodies. The Party raids the rest.
Ryltar tries to pull the shard from one, but fails.
Jerry looks for identifying information, but finds none.
In one adventurer's pack, we find a cubic-foot wooden box, each side with a different color and shape. Another adventurer wears a colorful patchwork robe. One Drow wears a black leather cloak that seems to have motifs of spiders. The box is an Abracadabrus. The robe is a Robe of Useful Items. And the cloak is the Cloak of Arachnida.
And 375 gold.
Next Session
We're fully rested (well, minus hit dice).
What do we do with the big stone?
There are five exits to this room that contains the big room.
Other stuff:
- We know how to trap the Jester, with Magic Circle
- What's going on with the stars? Are Ryltar's theories about colors and significant plot-relevant things' colors correct?
- How can the Mummy Lord be defeated?
- Determine how to resolve the Eta'el-Kerjes plot
- Remember to un-petrify Ockoh in the Ice Lord Wint's Lair — if Dirius didn't shatter him. Grab the de-petrification potions from the Elven town.
- Is Salris' brother also a bearer of the curse?
